Fan blow-out

The fan on my video card has lost a bearing, so it now makes a constant buzz. It's not loud as such, but it is intensly annoying. I found a packet of HDFoam ear plugs and shoved them into my ears. Bliss! As I type this the loudest thing I can hear is my own breathing.

You don't realize how noisy a town is until you deaden all sound for a while. The constant background hum of a city is very noticable when I take the ear pugs out.

You should try it. You can get the earplugs from store that sell safety equipment. They're about 50c a packet

ISTR there are different classifications of earplugs -- some are pansy-ass, some are decent, and some are industrial quality.

These are industrial safety plugs. You can operate a concrete saw while wearing them and not worry about damage to your hearing.

I didn't notice much noise where you are other than those technicolour budgies next door. What other sounds do your hear without ear plugs?

The budgies have gone! He sold them so he could rebuild the aviary.

What I noticed most was how loud the general rumble of traffic is, even though the main roads are 2km away.
