Tim Tams are indeed a work of perfection. You guys get full marks for Tim Tams, and for contributing macadamia nuts to the world's foodstuffs.

That site has a great name, but the grammar and puncutation errors are like biting on foil.

Ah...no. Macadamia trees are native only to Australia, where the aboriginal people have been using them as food for centuries. The genus was named after John Macadam, who was friends with Baron Ferdiand von Mueller, the botanist responsible for first categorizing the new genus.

Originally they were native to the subtropical rainforests of the Australian continent’s east coast. The indigenous tree is actually quite rare in the wild, now, and is unfortunately predicted to go extinct within the next 10-20 years.

Hawaii is the world's largest producer of macadamia nuts, which is probably the source of the confusion. However, macadamia trees weren't introduced to Hawaii until 1882.

Macadamia nuts (and their history) aren't widely known yet, since they're so recent and only really have a niche market.

I'm an amateur botanist, is how I knew about all that stuff. One of my texts has a little info box about macadamia trees.

I love 'em, myself. They're actually my favorite nut to put in chocolate chip cookies (on the exceedingly rare occasions I want nuts in my cookies).

I'm a heathen, I tend to have chips and salsa with my tea. This is largely because I'm American which means biscuits are either imported and very expensive or domestic and really quite nasty.

At least I don't drink coffee.
