Sir George Cayley: Hoorah!

In this day in 1853 Sir George Cayley launched the first fixed-wing aircraft, a glider. It was piloted by his coachman.

The Wright Bros. used his research 50 years later.

I'm going to name my first spaceship after him.

Interesting!

I'm afraid I'd never heard of him!

Though, I think the article is a bit optimistic to imply that
all the Wrights did was to attach an engine to a similar glider.
After all, it was the Wrights development of wing warping that
kept them in the air and under control.

Thanks Batty! Neat stuff! :)

Cool, I didn't know about him! And I really love the idea of a spaceship named George. ;)
(Ah, the great fleet of George, Orville, and Wilbur, with the support ship Icarus. =)
