Rain

It rained a bit today. Poor Polly came inside she was so frightened. She pushed open the screen door and hid under the dining room table even though coming inside is a BAD DOG thing. She is 6 months old and has never seen rain. Poor pup. How could I BAD DOG her? I took her outside and sat on the GOOD DOG1 bench and patted her.

It's sprinkling again. I have a frightened pup sitting on my feet. GOOD DOG.

The GOOD DOG seat is a wooden bench Polly jumps on to be patted when she wants to be a GOOD DOG. When she's been a BAD DOG she hides in a pot plant and buries her head under the leaves.

I can't imagine having an outside-only dog. The only place I ever have was in Australia, but Blackie was pretty much a farm dog, not a pet. (An adder got Blackie. :( )

DJ stays inside all night, so that if a skunk comes in the yard she doesn't try to chase it away thinking it's a kitty, and during the day time, she moves between the inside and outside of the house at will, through a dog flap.

That said, if a dog needs to be outside, I really admire the way you handled that. So many people would just yell at her, or expect her to learn to deal with it. She'll be able to accept rain much more easily in the future knowing that you aren't scared of rain, and that you'll be kind to her when things do scare her.

Awwwww

It's sadly adorable, hiding in plain sight where one
can easily be seen. It makes you want to scritch their ears sometimes even if they have been very bad;).If you lived up here you'd get to see her first *snow* reaction.

Delphi used to hide under the dining room table. She looked *so pathetic* when she was guilty. She also would crawl into the gap under one or the other sofas if a nasty thunderstorm was to occur. Occaisionally several hours before the event where there wasn't a cloud in the sky. And you *could not budge* that dog.
