Elgood's Black Dog

Pours a very dark brown with a large head that fades away very quickly. No carbonation visible in the glass.

First Sip: Roasted malts, with a lot of coffee and toffee flavours and a very mild hops. There is a mild sour after-taste. Mouth-feel is medium and a little tingley on the tongue.

This is very nice, but the light sourness is a bit ... odd. I could (and did) easily get used to it, but it's a surprise taste I was not expecting. Even so, this is a yummy beer and I would drink it again if I could get it in Aus. I haven't seen it for sale there. Yet. Definitely one to quaff with smoked meats.

I missed my opportunity yesterday - I refused to shop at the Cheese Barge in Stoke Bruerne. I thought I was being Strong Willed, but I was wrong to not buy cheese. This bitter would go well with a mild cheddar and I don't have any. I have Learned My Lesson. I will buy cheese when I can. And the town of Stilton is just up the road.
