den: (Beer)
One of the beers I picked up in Queensland.

The bottle opens with a small hiss. Pours a very dark chocolate brown with a small tan head.

Black Cockatoo

First Sip: Slightly sweet, but very toasted-malty with a mild caramel and chocolate flavour. Faint hops bitterness on the back of the tongue. Mild carbonation tingle. Mouth-feel is smooth. The caramel and chocolate become much stronger as the beer warms in the glass.

First sip was fallowed by a first gulp. This is a yummy beer. I had it on tap when I was in Queensland - on tap from the brewery. It is almost as good from a bottle. I am drinking it while I munch a cheddar from the cheese factory attached to the brewery. The cheese is also yummy, but the beer is yummyer.

If you are ever on the Gold Coast, it's worth your while to take a trip into the Hinterland and up Mount Tamborine.

I used the think the only beer Queenslanders knew about was XXXX Lager. The brewer at Mt Tamborine has changed my mind - some Queenslanders *do* know about real beer.

Black Cockatoo Dark Lager.
