Around The World In 80 Beers Episode 119: Grand Ridge Moonshine

Pours a dark, opaque mahogany brown with a small tan head. No carbonation visible in the depths.



First Sip: Sweet, dark malt, with a strong caramel taste. Mild hops taste after the swallow, but almost hidden. Bit of an alcohol after-burn. Mouth feel is medium, almost a little thin, with some mild carbonation fizz on the tongue.

The first time I tried this was many years ago, at the Grand Ridge Brewery in Mirboo North. On tap it is very yummy, especially when quaffed with fish and chips, in the company of a Good Friend.

I am still undecided on whether is bottles well or travels - it's still yummy, but I remember it being better. Maybe I am simply remembering that day many years ago which is colouring my recollections.

The beer does improve as it warms, as you would expect of a dark Scotch ale. But my goodness it is strong. I think some of the Belgian beers were stronger.
