Chimay Tripel

Pours a cloudy orange with a thick, medium-sized head.

First Sip: a mix of Sweet and tart and quite fizzy up front, which is then washed away by the strong alcohol and phenols tastes. A mild hops appears after the swallow and leaves a dry after-taste.

This beer is quite clear in the bottle, but I could see a few particles of yeast lurking around the bottom. I made sure I had the bottle standing in the fridge for 30 minutes, then carried it carefully to the place where I take the photos. I opened the bottle, and the beer foamed like mad and came out the neck. I had to do a quick pour or make a mess, and so my careful yeast-in-the-glass-minimization preparation was wasted. Bugger.

This is a nice beer and goes down easily, but the strong alcohol taste does spoil the yummyness. So it's a nice beer but not a yummy beer. It needs a strong food to go with it.

I really hope the ABC is re-showing series 1 of Rake in preparation for showing series 2.
