29 August 2009 11:52The zoo vet didn't think the beak break was so bad that it required rebuilding. Kingfishers usually grab their prey, not stab it. He was going to see about some acrylic reinforcing to hold the broken bits in place, but if that didn't work then there's no real problem.
What worried the vet more was the concussion, which would lead to brain damage if it was bad enough. The bird is in care at the zoo hospital for observation and professional R&R.
