Escape Diary - Day 105

I have found shelter outside the compound, and will begin a new attempt tonight. This may be my last entry. If you hear no further word from me, then I have succeeded!

Bob

Today I went with Mel to a deserted area of the Zoo under escort by Jodie The Vet Assistant, and released Bob the Echidna. The area is classified as a dry open woodland of river red gums covering a shallow valley thick with red gum litter and ground cover. There are echidna diggings scattered around.

We unloaded the bedding box, braced it on its side, and settled her -- Bob is a female -- inside. After a few minutes Bob emerged, sniffed the air, and went on the hunt in the leaf litter. Mel caught her for one last cuddle and released her, and we watched Bob waddle off into the trees.

I took many photos and provided a shoulder for crying upon. Good luck, Bob. It's been an interesting nine months.
