17 March 2008 19:16On 19th November 1941 the light cruiser HMAS Sydney engaged the German raider Kormoran off the coast of Western Australia. Kormoran was badly damaged and abandoned. HMAS Sydney burned, and sailed away. She and her 645 men were never found.
On March 14th 2008 searchers found the Kormoran. On March 17th the Prime Minister announced that the wreck of the Sydney was found 22km west of the Kormoran.
26° 14’ 37” S 111° 13’ 03” E is now marked as a war grave. Rest in peace, guys.
