Ewww.... ISO, OSI, and data transmission protocols. I know too much about them, and I can tell you that unless you end up physically stringing cable, or decide to get an EE degree, you'll almost never use any of it.
Who cares that you know the difference between ALOHA, SONET and FDDI? All any employer cares about is that you put in place a system that will run without fail for 30 years, never need upgrading, and that you put yourself in a position to be axed when things get tough. :P
Of course, I'm one to talk. I'm going back to Uni to finish my BA in Computer Science.
I did too (I'll tell you the story behind it later). Just thought you might like to know that while I found what you are studying fascinating, in the end it turned out (for me) to be of little more use than stamp collecting.
