On a completely different note -- when Joseph Banks took his drawings of kangaroos and platypuses back to Britain, he was told to stop making things up.
In the British Museum is the skin of the first platypus sent back to England. The skin sill bears the autopsy marks where they tried to discove how it was faked. 8)
