Wow!

This email has just arrived.

I'm writing you from the states because of your interest in bats -- and
because you've written some pretty funny stuff which I've read on the
internet. Why am I interested? I'm currently producing a three-hour
special on "RATS, BATS & BUGS" for the History Channel (the American
television network based in Stamford, Connecticut, near New York City).
Unlike most nature/creature shows, this series will focus on man's cultural
interaction with rats, bats and bugs, from ancient history to modern day --
and will, we hope, allow people to laugh while they learn. Who are you and
what's your relation to bats??? I hope you can find the time to respond.
Many thanks in advance,

Karen Thorsen

*cough* Sorry. :) No, really, that kicks ass, dude. And since it's the History Channel, odds are excellent that they'll produce something worth watching. You could become the next crocodile guy! Keep us updated on how it goes, I'll have to steal cable or something to watch the show if you're in it. :) :)

That is so cool! The History Channel isn't random cable. They really do make some good shows. (Their war shows are the same 12 hours of footage recombined, but the other is pretty good. ;) )

Have fun with the excitement. :)

sounds a bit like an accusation ... "Who are you, and what's your relation to bats??" *cackle* "She said she was 17! Honest!"

Excellent!

Cool! Conbats! :)

I hope you have better luck with the media than I had. I had a few sets of webpages that different people said they were going to feature on television shows, but nothing ever came of it. One article in a newspaper, though, did finally come through. Anyhow, keep on top of them!

OK, so this person has written because "your interest in bats -- and because you've written some pretty funny stuff which I've read on the internet. "

And, like, they need to ask what your relationship is with bats? Can't they use Googlegroups and just read all the callahans stuff?

[identity profile] ngarewyrd.livejournal.com 2002-03-06 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
WoooHooo, that rocks Batty.. *waves a little stupidly to the producers who prolly are reading this* Yay!

Here's to hoping it all works out! :) Sounds like a fantastic opportunity, and I know you'd be far more interesting for the job than the 50 other yobbos the producer undoubtedly contacted. All I can say is they'd better give you a free ticket to the States for filming so I can try to arrange to take you out to lunch or something. Of course, you'd probably be 3000 miles away in New York, but I can hope.

[identity profile] tygermoonfoxx.livejournal.com 2002-03-07 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
It sounds like a fantastic opportunity and if it IS legit, I'd take it and run with it. The History Channel produces some high quality material. However, I'm a bit concerned that the person who contacted you says that she read some of your work on the internet but has to ask about your relationship to bats. Perhaps you should ask her to which work she is referring. Go cautiously on this one.

[identity profile] nimma.livejournal.com 2002-03-07 10:11 am (UTC)(link)
I called the History Channel's main number in New York: that really is their address in Stamford. It's legit!

Congratulations, Den. :)
