Don't do that!

I bought a Canon IXUS80S for $350 as my secondary camera. The 40D is still my primary. The IXUS has a time-lapse setting (1f/s or 1f/2s).

Where did you take the shot of the sky? What's that structure on the bottom edge of the frame?

I took it from the yard at work. The structure is part of a pump house.
