Road Trip Day 10

April 8

The night crossing of Bass Strait was so smooth no one got sick. I sort of missed the gentle rocking motion of the 3 metre swells. I got up at 6am, showered and went straight for breakfast. I could see out the windows that Port Phillip Bay was like a mill pond. I finished breaky, grabbed the camera and hit the deck a few seconds after sunrise.

I'm not kidding when I say the bay was like a mill pond.

We docked at 7am and by 8 I was driving off the ferry When Ada had stopped freaking out I told her to get me home. She really doesn't like being tuned off, moved 450km then turned on again. I was through Melboune in under 60 minutes with a brief delay where two vehicles tried to occupy the same space/times coordinates, and heading up the Hume Freeway. There was one more short stop to make: Holbrook.

I love Holbrook. They have this:

a 1/4 scale model of the HMS B11.

Quite often someone will point something out to me and say "Isn't that STRANGE?" but all I think is "huh." Why don't I think strange things are very strange?

Because there is a model submarine built in rural NSW using a grant to commemorate Captain Cook's landing in Botany Bay.

I love this.

And so it was time to head home. As I drove up the Newell Highway and the stink of the maned wolves in the zoo filled my car, I thought: "Trip's over."

"bugger."

The only thing I query about the B11 scale model is, Why the B11 as a bi-centennial thing for captian cook's 'discovery' of Australia?

wouldn't it ahve been a better idea to do, I dunno, a simplified scale model of the Endevour or something like that?

You'd think that, wouldn't you.

But then, on the other paw, a scale model of the endevour, whilst impressive in it's own right, doesn't have the inherent _coolness_ of a miniturised submarine

There was a faint halo that the camera has intensified.

Don't really have anything to say, just thought I'd comment that I read all these posts and liked the pictures, interesting stuff.
